Prof. Matin research interests include Translational cancer research which includes constructing exosomes that specifically target the HER2+ve cells and tumors, as well as several C1-C2 based reporters for effective visualization of the targeting specificity, delivering functional DNA by exosomes to recipient cells, in loading the exosomes with mRNA encoding the ChrR6 enzyme; mRNA being superior for gene delivery than DNA for reasons such as the fact that mRNA is expressed without the need for transfer to the nucleus. Prof. Matin's received two times recipient of Environmental Protection Agency’s Star Award in 1991 and 1995. He was elected to the Steering Committee of Stanford Medical School Senate (2008–2011) and as a Chair of Medical School Senate Task Force for Postdoctoral Affairs (2010–2011).
